My work uses nature and patterns to create drawings that envelope the viewer. My process begins with drawing from direct observation of nature, highlighting the inherent and overlooked beauty found in plants, flowers, and creatures. The imperfect materiality of my work mirrors the imperfections found in nature. Through repetition and exaggeration of form, I aim to bring attention to the small wonders of the natural world.
I find inspiration being outdoors and observing what surrounds me. When outside, my eye is often drawn to unique and intricate forms. Design plays an important role in planning a drawing with the intention to create a seamless repeating image that honors the beauty of the subject. The final image is an intricate and organic design dancing in harmony.
I am fascinated with how nature grows into its most authentic forms with no explanation and no judgement. In a society where we often feel the need to prove ourselves, I look to nature as a reminder that this is untrue. I remember this as I create the work, finding peace in this grounding notion and extending this to all facets of life. My work invites others to appreciate and find peace the beauty that surrounds them.
